It's our fault that this happened. Sure, not entirely, part of it was our ancestors' fault, but they can't do anything now, right? So blaming them is not the way. And that leaves the living who are able to do something to help our darling planet.
Listed are some ways for you all to take a look. There are 20 ways. Let me challenge you all to complete at least 10 out of this 20. That's only half. Of course, it's best if you could do your part by actively doing these things, but let's not start too big, shall we?
- Change your homepage/desktop/wallpaper of your computer/laptop/phone to one that has a dark color scheme!
Black/dark colors uses much less energy. - Recycle your paper, cans, and plastic!
Use both sides of the paper, don't waste them! Reuse your plastic bottles and containers! Put all your unwanted materials into a recycling bin! - Scrap paper? Fold them into cranes and give them to your friends! Extra plastic straws? Fold them into little plastic hearts and give them out!
They'll appreciate the gesture! Trust me! - Save electricity! Use the fan! No air-conditioners at night!
It's alright to sleep without the air-conditioner for a few nights, I'm sure, unless you're a super spoilt brat of some sort. - Don't blast your music everywhere! You'll spoil your ears and waste electricity!
Use earphones if there's only you listening! - Cut your shower time by 30%!
Save water! There aren't a lot of clean water around! - Try to paint your rooms and houses something that's light or reflective!
Light colors absorbs less heat! - Reduce your rubbish!
Try recycling. - Use energy saving light bulbs!
No point wasting electricity, you pay more too! Try to use natural light! Open your windows! - Off all lights when not in use!
A good chunk of lighting expenses is from rooms that stay unnecessarily lit! - Wash your clothes in warm or cold water!
Hot water isn't necessarily needed. - Hang up your clothes instead of tumbling them dry!
Let them dry the natural way. - Microwaves use a lot of electricity, heat up food in a pot or pan instead!
Microwaves may save some time, but saving electricity is more important! - Reduce the brightness of your computer/laptop!at least by half!
This saves more energy as black uses less energy. - Take the public transport instead!
Save energy and fuel by taking the public transport if possible. - Cut down your computer time by an hour!
Of course, unless you already use only an hour. - Use biodegradeble plastic bags!
They're more environmentally friendly. - Bring your own shopping bag when you go shopping!
Save plastic bags. When there's a demand, there's the supply. - Help seperate your rubbish!
Seperate the biodegradeble stuff from the non-biodegradeble stuff, then the wrong things will not be incenerated. Plastic which is burnt produces a poisonous gas. - Don't leave your main switch on!
Even though the applicance may not be on, but if the main switch is on, electricity is still used.
You may think that one person on this 6billion people populated earth can't make a difference. But let me tell you, it CAN. All big things started with something small. When you follow and lead by example, others will look up to you as a role model, and in turn they will follow you, like this, one by one, the world is getting influenced.
This is a challenge. It is up for you whether to take it or not, but bear in mind the consequences. I regret only having the courage to set this blog up only yesterday, but I'm glad I did it.
Even if you don't want to do it, think of your descendents. Do they deserve to be born into a world that's been so destroyed? Our ancestors left us with a pretty good environment, yet we destroyed it, and now it's up to us to slow this process down, only if everyone does their part and works together.
Everyone matters.
